NORMAL – The NCAA announced earlier today that Illinois State quarterback Brady Davis has been granted an injury redshirt that gives him a sixth year of eligibility.
Davis, who transferred to Illinois State after playing three years at Memphis, missed the entire 2016 campaign for the Tigers after injuring his left knee in the preseason scrimmage. With the injury waiver, Davis has the opportunity to play two more seasons for the Redbirds.
“It means a lot,” said Redbird head coach Brock Spack. “It’s nice to have that option. To know that this year’s definitely not his last if he chooses to take that and exercise his sixth year, he can do that.”
Davis played in 10 games last season with the Redbirds. He threw for 1,935 yards, 19 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Davis unseated incumbent quarterback Jake Kolbe for the starting job before the first game of the year.
“From a standpoint for him I’m sure it’s a relief,” said Spack. “Obviously from our end it’d be great if he took the sixth year. But it could be good news if he didn’t, that means [he’d have] a great year this coming year.”
ISU football is in the midst of their spring season with practices ongoing until the 2019 Spring Showcase on April 13th.
