Normal – The Children’s Discovery Museum is having their 6th annual Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead event this past weekend.

The event celebrates the Latino tradition of honoring loved ones that have died through “ofrendas” or offerings of their favorite foods and drinks.

The museum has partnered with Illinois State University’s Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honors Society to put together an event that embraces the Latino culture and traditions.

Education Manager Rachel Carpenter says they make sure to work with people who are part of the Latino and Mexican community so they can learn about their culture through them and put together a great event.

The first 100 visitors at Dia De Los Muertos will get to decorate sugar skulls. There are plenty of activities for everyone such as making paper marigolds, coloring pages, and bilingual story time. There will also be a station to create and decorate a skeleton and shadow box.

Dia De Los Muertos will be November 2nd at the Children’s Discovery Museum.
