NORMAL – Redbird Track & Field Sophomore Caleb Miedema was recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference athlete of the week for his performance at the Jack Jennett Open last week.
Miedema competed in seven events and recorded personal bests in 60-meter dash, shot put, high jump, and tied his best in the pole vault.
“It was my goal to go over 5,000 this year, actually I want to go around 52,000 but just going into the meet I knew what I had to do in each event,” said Miedema. “Going into this meet coach and I knew what I needed to do, I knew I could do it and knew I was ready for it and put together a good first heptathlon.”
This was the first conference honor for the Sophomore.
“It’s a nice accomplishment,” said Miedema. “Just to know that the hard work I put in is starting to pay off and that I’m starting to get recognition.”
The next challenge for the Redbirds will be the Adidas Classic hosted by Nebraska this Saturday at 11:30 A.M.
