WASHINGTON, D.C.- Later this year, the American people will have a choice on how they want our country to be run come election day.
The impeachment shifts some expectations our Illinois Congressman has for the country moving forward from the State of the Union Address and the Impeachment acquittal.
“If I was in the president’s shoes, I would address it [the impeachment trial], but I would try to do it in a way of like ‘alright regardless of what position you are on, we have a country to run here.’ I don’t know what to expect quite honestly, this is going to be a speech that is going to be focused on where are we going from here. If the president is reelected what are we doing in the next five years,” said Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
President Trump was acquitted of the two articles of impeachment against him.
The acquittal did not go without suspense. Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, found the President guilty of abuse of power, becoming the first senator in US history to vote to remove from office a president from the same party.
“I would not be fully honest, if I said I expect this to be the next Kumbaya year. I think there will continue to be a lot of bickering, battling and back-and-forth. There will be a lot of fighting, but this is what’s great about democracy, having all those different opinions,” said Kinzinger.
With optimism Kinzinger said, “I hope the tone is, ‘hey let’s just move forward, you weren’t able to impeach me, you didn’t remove me. So, let’s all work together.'”
Coming out of impeachment and with the election coming up Kinzinger said he was not shocked that Pete Buttigieg won the Iowa Caucus.
“With record unemployment, rising wages and continued job growth, the American people are seeing the benefits of our pro-growth policies. It’s time we remember how great America truly is and how fortunate we are to call this country our home,” said Kinzinger.
