NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State University Board of Trustees is moving forward with the campus Multicultural Center.
The trustees authorized a$5.5 million renovation project to transform the Instructional Technology and Development Center into its new home as the highly-anticipated campus Multicultural Center.
Director of Media Relations Eric Jome said the university is thankful for the continued support on this project.
“We’re excited about this,” said Jome.
“We know that this is something that students have wanted and faculty and staff have been very supportive of this, administration has been supportive of this. So its nice to see this project moving from the concept stage to a more concrete design.”
This project will include the design and construction of meeting and program spaces, a kitchen, computer lab, reflection room, administrative offices for staff, student organizations and satellite support services.
The university said the funding for the project comes from auxiliary facilities system bond revenues and planned 2020 bond series proceeds.
The university is now actively seeking donors interested in naming various spaces that will make up the center.
Besides naming opportunities, the university is also asking for any donations to provide resources for students to improve academically and professionally.
The Multicultural Center is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
The university said that input from multiple campus stakeholders and information on multicultural centers at other campuses helped to shape the vision for Illinois State’s center.
