BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – While spring sports remain dormant, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is actively working to plan for the future.
The Board of Directors met yesterday to discuss their plans moving forward.
“First and foremost, the IHSA continues to encourage all Illinois residents to heed the recommendations of state officials and medical experts,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “These quarantine and social distancing measures have been put in place not only for your own safety but also for those around you. By adhering to them, we ensure the shortest path to returning to normalcy, including physical school attendance and participation in high school sports and activities.”
While Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced Tuesday that all Illinois school will remain closed for the entire month of April, the IHSA is hopeful classes can resume on May 1.
They have supported an exemption to the IHSA Season Limitation By-Law that results in state tournaments crowning a champion in late June but isn’t considering spring sports to keep playing into July.
However, any further school suspensions will most likely result in the cancellation of the remainder of spring sports and activities that would be competing during this time.
