NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Volleyball came back after missing 3 weeks due to not having enough players medically eligible to play.

The Redbirds played host to the Missouri State Bears, who held the best record in the conference at 8-2 on the season. This didn’t scare the Redbirds as they would go out and dominate the Bears.

Leading the way for the Redbirds, Kaylee Martin would finish the game with 14 kills. Martin would hit a milestone getting her one thousandth career kill. Other leaders in this game would be Stef Jankiewicz with 37 assists and Kendal Meier with 18 digs.

The Redbirds would come out with a strong performance in the first recording 16 kills with strong performances all around. The Bears did not let the Redbirds build much of a lead but would let things get away from them towards the end of the set which ended in a 25-20 set win for the Redbirds.

Set 2 was much closer with the Redbirds and the Bears battling back and forth. After going down 3-0 the Redbirds would bounce back. The Redbirds would have 14 kills in set 2 and would benefit from 9 errors by the Bears. This one was close but the Redbirds would win set 2 after an error by the Bears ending in a final score of 26-24.

Kaylee Martin and Stef Jankiewicz would continue to dominate going into set 3. The Redbirds would take over late in the set finishing on a 3-0 scoring run to give themselves a 25-21 win over the Bears and completing the sweep.

The Redbirds will take on Missouri State again tomorrow at 4. We will have live coverage of the game here on our website and on 103.3 WZND.
