BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Nineteen votes led Tom Crumpler to victory this municipal election. Crumpler won Ward 9 against opponent Jim Fruin.
“It felt really great, you know. I went into the election you know really not having any experience in Bloomington city government. Just really wanting to have the opportunity to serve the community. I feel like I worked really hard—really starting in December and January. Getting myself out in the community trying to meet voters,” Crumpler.
Crumpler says he was pleased with the outcome of the race. He says as elected Alderman of Ward 9, he wants to keep connections with voters in his ward.
Representing voters and citizens of Bloomington to improve their lives is another goal Crumpler mentions.
“I really am committed to transparency during my campaign I had virtual webinars. I made lots of phone calls and I really want people to feel like they can reach out and contact me whenever they have concerns about anything that’s going on,” said Crumpler. “Also, I’m a person who really values collaboration and I want really committed to working with the other members of Bloomington City Council.”
Infrastructure is an issue that members of the Bloomington community want to be addressed and fixed. Crumpler explains that he wants to work on the damaged areas while in office with the community. He also wants the city of Bloomington to know more about who he is since being still new to government.
“I would want them to know that I’m an individual who treats everyone with respect whether I agree with them or not. I’m also an individual who wants to make decisions based on evidence—not you know emotional types of arguments but really data and what’s good for the city.”
