NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State swimming and diving is hosting their season opener on Saturday, October 23 against Evansville.

The Redbirds are very young this year, and MVC preseason polling has them picked to finish fourth in the conference. One of the leaders for the team this fall will be senior Sarah Hein, who is coming off a strong junior year in which she finished with a selection to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team as well as All-Conference Honorable Mention.

“I’m really excited and I think as a team we’re going to do great,” said Hein. “As a senior, it’s super fun and exciting to watch this program grow and improve.”

This season looks to be much different than what we saw last spring with the Missouri Valley set to start the season in the fall, rather than waiting a semester due to COVID-19. For student-athletes, this means that there is a lot less time to train with your team before the season starts.

“From the beginning of the season to now, I think it’s seemed a lot shorter,” said Hein. “Training has been different and more intense.”

For Hein, everything about the upcoming season feels different than last, and to her, that is a good thing.
The start time from Horton Pool is set for Saturday at noon.
