NORMAL, Ill.–At approximately 11:00 a.m. Illinois State University notified students, staff and faculty about a man with a weapon on Main and Locust.
There were further updates from ISU Emergency Alert explaining that the person with a weapon was not in regards to an active shooting situation. The person was believed to be armed and dangerous on or near campus. There was the potential of an immediate threat.
Around 11:58 a.m. ISU PD mentioned that the man with a weapon was traveling northbound on School Street from Willow in Normal and heading away from campus. Normal PD continues to investigate the situation.
The Bone Student Center on the campus of Illinois State University closed the second floor of the building but continues to remain open. Other buildings were on lock down and there were police cars around the surrounding area.
It is asked that anyone with any information to contact Normal Police Department with information at 309-454-9535. No additional updates are planned at this time, as the suspect’s vehicle is believed to have left the area.
