NORMAL Ill.- The Illinois State Women’s tennis team is off to a strong start to the 2022 season with a record of 6-3.

The team is on a two match winning streak, with their last victory coming on February 20, against Creighton. In the match against Creighton, the redbirds was able to take a 1-0 lead but Creighton was able to make it 1-1. In the end, the redbirds were able to take the win with a final score of the match to be 5-2.

Recently, Sophomore Tijana Zlatanovic was announced MVC singles player of the week, making it the second time this season that she earned this award. Zlatanovic had helped the redbirds this past weekend in Omaha, Nebraska with two wins, one in a singles match and the other win was in a doubles match with Tara Damnjanovic.

The redbirds are looking to extend their winning streak with their next match on Saturday February 26 at home against Eastern Illinois. The last time Illinois State faced Eastern Illinois was February 14, 2021 and it was a 6-1 victory for Illinois State, with the doubles winning two of the three matches. ISU hopes to continue that dominance with the doubles again when going against Eastern Illinois.
