NORMAL IL. – The state of Illinois has reached a record low in unemployment in 6 years.

The most recent data has revealed that unemployment claims have been below $70,000 for 26 weeks.

The director of the State Department of Employment Security (IDES) agency Kristen Richards explained that “This in fact is an indication of a strong labor market when unemployment claims or it recorded lows like we’ve seen here for 6 months consecutively in the state of Illinois. It’s an indication that people are back to work and they’re not experiencing any type of layoffs.”

The Illinois Department of Employment Security stated in a press release “The decrease in continued claims is a reflection of pandemic-related economic recovery and an indication the Illinois labor market remains strong.”
