NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) is working toward getting a new resolution passed to keep landlords out of student apartments without notice.
On campus, the SGA works to ensure student voices are heard and student interests are met. In recent complaints from the student body about abrupt landlord entrances, SGA is advocating for students to have a minimum of a 24-hour notice from their renters before entering their residence. This notice for renters within the town of Normal would prohibit leasing companies like Young America, First Site and SAMI from sending tenants a message minutes before they come into their residence for whatever reason.
Public Relations Director of the SGA Alex Duffy says that members of SGA are lobbying the local government to make a municipal law that would put a 24-hour notice in place.
Aside from the resolution, SGA has no shortage of plans and events for the current semester. They currently have several vacancies within the College of Business and College of Education. Senator spots within those majors are planned to be filled within the coming weeks.
The SGA is also holding several events in the coming weeks. They are hosting a night walk on October 2nd at 7:30 p.m. and will meet outside the steps outside of Hovey Hall. The ISU Police Department will join the walk around campus with students addressing any issues with safety that students may have.
SGA will hold their next public meeting on Wednesday, October 4th, in the Old Mill Building.
