BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Wednesday night, Bloomington police officers were dispatched to Illinois Wesleyan University with report of an active shooter. Similarly, Illinois State police had received reports of a potential active shooter on their campus.

Both reports were investigated thoroughly with no active threats found and the report being not credible.

The reports came during the ongoing investigation that was being conducted in Macomb, IL after Western Illinois University distributed a safety alert on their campus for an active shooting. Two officers were struck by gunfire during that shooting that left them in critical, but stable condition.

In a quote from a press release sent out by the Bloomington Police Department they stated, “We take all reports seriously and response to these incidents takes priority when the safety and well-being of our community members is threatened. We ask our community members to look critically at the information being shared with them, ask questions before sharing, and bring first-hand accounts to law enforcement so we can quickly respond.”
