Redbird Soccer Set to Host First Round of MVC Playoffs

NORMAL, Ill. -Illinois State Soccer wrapped up their regular season in Nashville with a loss to Belmont, but not long after that, the Redbirds found out they would be hosting the first round of the MVC playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

The Birds finished out the regular season with two losses on the road after building momentum after the win against Drake. Regardless, it was a successful regular season with outstanding individual efforts from many players.

Rylann Law led the team in goals as a freshman with 4 in 19 games. Kaya Durkee led the team in assists with 3 in 19 games. Madi Valenti led the way in net with 11 shutouts setting records left and right.

The key for the Birds on Sunday will be finding a way to scrape across just 1 goal. The problem has been scoring for this team all year. Madi Valenti has been excellent in net and we know if the Birds can get just 1 on the board, the defense will get them through to the next round.

There was a lot to be proud of this season for Illinois State and the good news is that it is not over yet. The Redbirds will take on Southern Illinois in the first round of the Missouri Valley playoffs at Adelaide Street Field, Sunday at 1 pm.
