Normal Town Council race comes to a close

Background

NORMAL – After a long municipal election day, an incumbent remains in only one of the three seats on the Normal Town Council that were up for election. Kathleen Lorenz, who has been on the council since 2015, won 14.52% of the vote, allowing her to stay in office for another term.

She was not the lead vote-getter, however, as that distinction belongs to Stan Nord, who received 19.63% of the vote. Nord ran a campaign focused largely on lowering taxes.

Nord will be joined as a new member of the Town Council by Karyn Smith, an educator at Illinois State University, who won 14.01% of the vote.

R.C. McBride, fellow ISU educator and General Manager of WGLT radio, has lost his seat on the council after receiving 1.17% less votes than Smith. He was originally sworn in along with Lorenz after winning a seat on the council during the 2015 election.
