NORMAL, Ill. – As we enter into the fall season, colds, flus, and other viruses become more frequent amongst students here at ISU. But there are some ways in which individuals can better protect themselves that should be mentioned.

With this being the third straight year of COVID during flu season, COVID boosters and flu shots are highly recommended at this time of year. As there are now safer versions of the COVID vaccine, people of ages 12 and older are advised to get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. For those 18 and older, the Moderna vaccine is recommended.

Considering the COVID booster and initial doses of the vaccine can be done once, health specialists advise getting the flu shot annually, especially for this fall season with numerous viruses circulating in the air. Noting that the end of October is the peak of flu season, taking the time to get a preventable vaccine is the best chance people have at staying immune or avoiding crippling symptoms from the viruses.
