NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its first Financial Awareness Fair in the Bone Student Center on March 22.
This fair, which was aimed towards students, was to allow them to see new financial resources that are available at ISU and how some of these resources would benefit our financial goals, as well as allow students to see how their money is used throughout the University.
SGA Secretary of College Affordability, Kerem Tasdan, was the organizer of the fair. Tasdan spoke about the financial fair’s goal and how he thinks this fair will make a lasting impact on ISU students.
“I think a lot of people recognize and understand that college is not always an affordable thing for everybody to be able to go to and attend and while we’re here,” said Tasdan. “We should be able to have the best experience the most prosperous experience that we can and to be able to succeed in our future.”
The Financial Awareness Fair also had a lot to offer, including services from ISU like the Center for Civic Engagement, Visor Center, Recreation and Wellbeing, Financial Aid Office and Career Services. Each service had a table, where the service representative was ready to answer students’ questions, and packets of resources for students to view. Quick giveaways to excite people allowed students attending the events to see how specific place on ISU’s campus provides their financial benefits and be there for them when they are in financial struggles and how these services can help them.
Since this was the first time SGA hosted this event, Tasdan spoke about how this event provided students with resources to help improve their college experience. Tasdan also touched on how this fair was a great example of the vast resources provided to ISU students.
