NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State University’s new indoor practice facility, north of Horton Field House, was officially opened on September 30.
After waiting since the groundbreaking ceremony in 2022, teams can finally practice on the new field. Redbirds were able to get on the field the next day.
The purpose of the indoor practice facility is to create more space for teams to practice. Many teams need to practice in the same places, particularly Horton Field House, causing a lot of congestion.
One of the goals of the new practice facility is to clear up some of the congestion and give teams more chances to get on a field to practice. Teams will now have more opportunities to practice during the off-season and when weather is unsuitable for practice on outdoor fields.
The practice facility is for all Redbird student-athletes. While the field is mainly for Redbirds, future plans for the facility include serving the larger community.
