NORMAL, Ill. – November’s Small Business Month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economy and communities.
Uptown Normal is home to many small businesses, including ISU apparel shop Campustown Supply. Store owner Daniel Maloney shared his experience owning a small business.
“The best part about running a business is being my own boss,” Maloney said. “We’re closed on Mondays, why? Because I want to be. I can make my own schedule… I’m my own accountant. Being on one side of it for 10 years and now being on the other side, I wouldn’t ever go back.”
Being located in Uptown brings a wide variety of potential customers. Whether it be prospective students and their families, current ISU students, alumni, faculty, staff, or Redbird fans, these customers play a crucial role in small businesses.
“If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be here and we wouldn’t be able to keep the doors open,” Maloney said. “We just try to do what we can to provide the best value we can for the customers and hope that they can see that and take advantage of that. We’re just here to help them while they help us, and it all works out for everybody.”
Campustown Supply is located at 121 W North Street in Normal.
