NORMAL, Ill.- Last night, Illinois State women’s basketball traveled to the Hulman Center to take on the Indiana State Sycamores for an ISU vs ISU clash.
The last time these two teams faced off, the Redbirds defeated the Sycamores 96-69. They were coming into this game following a road trip in Iowa.
The first two quarters saw both teams keep it close between each other, with the Redbirds winning the first quarter and the Sycamores winning the second, and the first half saw the Sycamores lead 37-35.
The turning point in this game was the third quarter, which saw the Redbirds outscore them 20-13. They shot 66% from the field and 75% from the three while holding Indiana State to 27% from the field and 20% from three, and they led 55-50.
The Redbirds would go on to win this game 85-77 to snap their two-game losing streak. Five players finished in double figures.
Guard Shannon Dowell led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Followed by Forward Nevaeh Thomas, finishing with 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
A program record was broken in this game by Normal’s guard, Maya Wong, who played 146 games for the birds.
The Redbirds now sit at 9-4 in conference play and 15-9 overall.
Next time out, they will travel to Evansville to play the Aces at 2 pm on Saturday at the Ford Center.
