NORMAL, Ill. – With the high school football season set to kick off this weekend, University High School head coach Brody Walworth shared his expectations for the Pioneers as they prepare for another year on the gridiron.

Walworth emphasized the importance of building a program rooted in values and discipline, saying his team’s success will come from more than just talent on the field.

“In our program we have four core values: family, service, relentless, and excellence,” Walworth said. “We truly believe if we are upholding those four core values and putting process before product, we can be the best version of ourselves. From a talent and work ethic standpoint, if we’re at our best, I really believe we’ll have a great chance to make a deep run in the postseason.’’

The Pioneers are coming off a 10-win season and a state semifinal appearance, but Walworth believes this year’s group has the potential to reach even greater heights.

“We have to continue to build culture, continue to build a winning mindset, and continue to build young men to be leaders in their community in the future,” Walworth said.

U-High will open its season on the road Friday night against the Manual Rams. Walworth believes if the Pioneers can get off to a good start and play a clean game with limited penalties, they’ll have a strong chance to earn a win and set the tone for the season.
