NORMAL, Ill. – ISU has plenty to be thankful for after defeating Charlotte on Thursday, November 27, 79-69.
The Redbirds were efficient on the court with a percentage of 48 percent from the field. The ability to get the line was a big factor for ISU, shooting 31 total free throws, making 21 of them.
Boden Skunberg led the way for the Redbirds as he recorded a double-double. Skunberg picked up 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The double-double is Skunberg’s first as a Redbird, sixth of his career.
Chase Walker followed closely behind Skunberg as Walker scored 18 points. The Junior grabbed five rebounds before fouling out with 14 seconds left.
Ty’Reek Coleman was the third and final Redbird in double figures with 13 points. The Freshman was all over the court as he picked up an assist, a block, and a steal.
Ty Pence and Johnny Kinziger were also in the starting lineup with Skunberg, Walker, and Kinziger. Pence scored six before he fouled out in the second half. Kinziger finished with eight points and four assists.
Coming off the bench, Landon Wolf led the way for ISU, racking up six points with four rebounds. Wolf got three steals while he shot an efficient 3-5.
Mason Klabo, Brandon Lieb, and Jack Daugherty also got on the board. Klabo had three, Lieb with two, with three rebounds, and Daugherty with one point. Cameron Barnes and Landon Moore got some minutes; neither scored. Barnes came down with three rebounds.
Up next for Illinois State is the championship game for their respective ESPN Tournament on Friday, November 28, at 2 p.m. against Furman at the State Farm Fieldhouse in Kissimmee, Florida.
