Normal, Ill. – On Friday, January 24, Illinois State University held a Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Dinner in the Bone Student Center. Prior to the dinner, Angela Rye held press conference where students could ask her questions.

Rye was asked if she felt that MLK Jr. would be proud of the progression black Americans have made today since his time. She said, “he would feel there is still progress to be made.”

She said, “that in his time they were fighting for water fountain privileges, jobs, and non-segregated schools.”

Today, black Americans are fighting for equal wages and opportunities.

Rye currently serves on the boards of the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee (CBCPAC), and the Seattle University School of Law Alumni. Rye is known for her appearances on BET, CNN, NBC, HBO, ABC, MSNBC, and TV One.
