NORMAL- Redbird Track & Field pole vaulter Eddie Winner was named Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week following his efforts at the Meyo invite in Notre Dame last weekend.
Winner reached his best mark as a Redbird and propelled himself to 4th on the ISU all-time list. The sophomore attributes the help from his coaching staff to the success he’s had this season.
“I speak with my coach a lot, we have a really good relationship with each other,” said Winner. “We just prepare week by week for each meet.”
With indoor season in full swing and the quality of competition increasing, Winner is set on continuing to improve his marks in the vault. He is currently ranked 1st in the Valley and has a major goal in sight.
“I really wish to break the school record,” said Winner. “I think it would be a really nice reward for the coaching staff that puts a lot into us.”
The task on hand for the Redbirds this weekend is the Iowa State Classic. This meet will be a competitive one with many strong teams in attendance. This meet will provide the Redbirds a chance to see some fierce competition before the conference championships at the end of the month.
The Iowa State Classic will take place this weekend with events beginning Friday at noon.
