NORMAL, Ill.- To celebrate Therapeutic Recreation Month, the Student Fitness Center held their annual Adaptapalooza event on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Adaptapalooza has been a yearly event and is in its sixth year.
This event lets people participate in physical activities adjusted for those with disabilities.
This is one way the university is taking strides to execute their pillar of diversity and inclusion.
ISU Instructional Professor of Parks and recreation Sherri Hildebrand talked about what Adaptapalooza does for the community and how it educates them.
Hildebrand said, “It helps educate the people who attend as to the types of recreational opportunities that are out there for people with these disabilities.”
Every February the therapeutic recreation students create Adaptapalooza and give people the tools to experience the benefits of activities, sports and recreation without limits.
Activities include wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, goal ball and adaptive rock climbing.
