BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- People all across the country found a reason to celebrate Saturday after Joe Biden was projected as President of the United States.

Within hours of the announcement, Ward 6 Alderwoman Jenn Carrillo put together an event titled, “YOU’RE FIRED. A Community Farewell to 45.”

“Electing somebody like Joe Biden- I mean, I don’t think it’s going to solve all our problems,” said Carrillo. “At a minimum we have an administration who is more receptive to some of the things we care about in this community.”

The gathering at Withers Park hosted what looked to be about 40 people as they came and went at different times. Happiness was obvious among the dancing, cheering, and supportive honking from cars passing by.

Among the crowd were multiple public officials and community activists including Ward 8 Alderman Jeff Crabill and Normal Town Council member Chemberly Cummings.

“Joe Biden’s win today means to me, there’s hope for us as a country and as a community,” said Cummings. “We saw such great polarization, politically, happen over the last four years.”

While the community was celebrating a victory, many said this is not where they stop fighting for justice.

“Is everything perfect? No. Is Joe Biden going to be our savior? Absolutely not,” said Cummings. “It at least gives us hope.”
