NORMAL, ILL.- The Illinois state men’s basketball team were unable to stop the 6-0 run by the Bears to end the game as they fell to Missouri State 72-62.
DJ Horne led the way for the Redbirds with 18 points, followed by the returning Josiah Strong with 14 points. The game was tight until the twelve minute mark in the second half where the Redbirds went on a 11-0 scoring run to take a 47-46 lead.
From there, the Bears turned up the intensity going on a 6-0 run and holding the Redbirds scoreless in the last four minutes of the game.
“I thought out defense let us down and the turnovers really hurt us in the second half,” said coach Dan Muller.
Also leading the way for the Redbirds was Antonio Reeves with 9 points and Dusan Mahorcic with a game high 15 rebounds.
The Redbirds are back in action on Saturday, February 13 as they head to the Banterra Center to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis starting at 3 p.m.
